To whom ever this may concern:
A problem has come to my attention that your academic institute does not offer Sex Education courses nor have contraceptives options available to your students. This is a serious issue because studies have shown that more teens are becoming sexually active by the time they reach high school. Some topics, such as sex, teenagers tend to turn away from their parents and search for the information they acquire on the internet, through friends, and the media. According to the article “Sex Education”, STD’s such as, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia being common amongst teenagers rather than adults, do you really want to leave their safety up to sources that aren’t always reliable? High Schools in all states should teach Sex Education courses and have contraceptives available because it gives teenagers a way to protect themselves from diseases, learn all aspects about sex, and sometimes prevents early sexual activity. It’s not about whether you believe the teenagers should refrain from premarital sex, but about their safety if they choose another option then abstinence. Teens need to know the dangers they are stepping into when they decide it is time for them to engage in sexual intercourse.
High Schools are a great way for teenagers to learn about diseases that they may contract and prevention methods because it isn’t on such a personal level. The students will understand that it’s not acceptable to have unprotected sex because it could lead to serious consequences such as teenage pregnancy, HIV, and other sexually transmitted infections. By showing them the different types of contraceptives and making them available will help them decide to make responsible decisions. It will initially decrease the amount of STD’s that are being spread and limit unexpected pregnancies. Your sex education course could simply teach abstinence and non-abstinence. It will show students how to use condoms, and for females, the proper way to use birth control methods. Sex shouldn’t be a topic that is only talked about behind a closed door, it is apart a life and no one should have to feel ashamed about something that is necessary to continue reproduction.
Some people oppose sex education and condom availability because they feel it will encourage teenagers to have sex. In a way if you really think about it, the course could be like a scare tactic. If the world goes off this assumption, then it would be unfair to the teenagers who actually need to learn these subjects. Studies from the article “Sex Education” have shown more than 43% ninth-grade boys, and more than 31% ninth-grade girls stated they had been sexually active back in 1993. The numbers are at a constant increase even till this day. It’s time for you to take a stand and save your youth. Sometimes when teenagers take a step down a tougher path, it is up to the adults to make sure their future stays bright. Be that adult that saves someone teenage years.
Sincerely,
